I called up Vijay on Saturday night asking him for some new location to shoot Birds. He suggested the Mavthur Lake, off Kanakapura Road. The next morning I started early and reached the place by around 7.30am. Wow! what a place it was. Though the road was a bit bad, I managed to drive till the banks and parked the car there. I scanned the area to see what birds were present. The Grey Heron, Spot Billed pelican, Black-headed Ibis, Wooly necked stork, the egrets, Pied Kingfisher and a whole lot of other birds were there. It was an awesome place.

I did manage to shoot some birds, but approaching them on foot was quite a challenge. There was a fisherman at work in his coracle. I asked him if it would be possible for him to take me around the lake in the coracle. He did oblige and asked me to wait till he finished his work. I had to wade through the slush and get into the coracle, and then the action began. Since the birds were used to the fisherman/coracle, I was able to approach the birds at ease and shoot away to glory. The canon 100-400 lens is well know for flight shots, and it did prove to be. For me, it was the day of the Grey Heron. Got some nice shots of this bird in action.
 

 

Before leaving the place I previewed the images on my 10D and had a big happy smile for the images I had got. Thanks Vijay for showing me this place, I had a great day. Folks - Relax, sit back and enjoy these images.
